"NII and five colleges of the Delhi University - Dayal Singh College, Gargi College, Institute of Home Economics, Sri Venkateswara College and Zakir Husain Delhi College - co-hosted a Workshop on Stem Cell Science and Technology: Hype and Reality on 22.09.2015 at the Salman Ghani Hashmi Auditorium in Zakir Husain Delhi College under the auspices of the Science Setu Programme.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Dr Manju Sharma, Former Secretary, DBT who emphasized the need for more such workshops to spread the message of science among the younger generation. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chandrima Shaha, Director NII explained the objectives behind the launching of the Science Setu . Dr S Natesh, Consultant-Advisor, NII pointed out that the workshop was a historic one in the sense that for the first time five constituent colleges of the Delhi University has joined hands in co-hosting a programme such as this. The theme lecture of the Workshop on "Cells, Stem Cells and Their Apllications"was delivered by Dr D Balasubramanian, Director-Research, LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.
This was followed by a Panel discussion on various aspects of stem cells. Dr Ashok Mukhopadhyaya, NII; Dr Sujata Mohanty, AIIMS; and Dr Alka Sharma, DBT participated in the discussion along with dr D Balasubramanian. The discussions were ably moderated by Dr Satyajit Rath, NII. The young participants from colleges had many questions, which were patiently answered by the panelists.
More than 450 students and teachers from 12 colleges across the University of Delhi enthusiastically took part in the Workshop."
